South Funen Archipelago

Let the wind blow in your hair on one of the many ferry rides and relax in untouched nature, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Cycle through rural areas with charming half-timbered houses, ancient barrows, lighthouses and natural monuments. The medieval towns of Fåborg and Svendborg, the latter known for shipbuilding, are worth seeing. This tour consists of short stages that are easy to cycle, there’s only one day where you’ll have to master a few hills. Therefore, this tour in the South Funen Archipelago with comfortable hotels is ideal for cyclists of all abilities.

Day 1 Arrival in Fåborg
Stroll through the medieval Fåborg and ascend the bell tower, the town’s landmark, to enjoy a wonderful view of the sea.

Day 2 Lyø & Avernakø Islands
You’ll visit two of the smallest islands with idyllic half-timbered houses, small ponds and a Dutch mill. You can also try to get the Klokkesten, a neolithic tomb, to produce a bell-like sound.

Day 3 Fåborg-Ærø-Svendborg, 25-50 km/16-31 mi, boat trip
The ferry then takes you to the island of Ærø, where the cliffs of Voderup Klint, the hunting lodge Søbygaard, the seafaring town of Marstal and the lighthouse of Skjoldnæs beckon. From the picturesque Ærøskøbing the ferry will take you to Svendborg, where magnificent old sailing ships are moored.

Day 4 Drejø & Skarø Islands, 20 km/12 mi, boat trip
Again, the ferry will take you to the small islands of the South Funen Archipelago. Lots of nature awaits you with cliffs, sandy reefs, dunes and salt meadows.

Day 5 Excursion Lundeborg - Tåsinge Island, 45-60 km/28-37 mi
Today you’ll cycle along the coast to Lundeborg and on to the island of Tåsinge. The renaissance castle Valdemars Slot is worth seeing here.

Day 6 Svendborg - Fåborg, approx. 35 km/22 mi
The last stage first takes you along the coast, before it gets a little more hilly in the nature reserve Svanninge Bakker. While away the evening hours in the historic town centre.

Day 7 Return or Extension
The tour ends after breakfast. If you like, extend your cycle tour on the South Funen Archipelago.
