You can look forward to a cycle tour on the island of Usedom and along the Szczecin Lagoon. Along the way you’ll get to enjoy lots of sea views, white beaches and a unique lagoon landscape, which is home to many animal species. You’ll cycle through romantic and historic cities and villages on the “sunny side of Germany”, as well as visiting former imperial spa towns with impressive piers. This tour is easy to cycle, but you should nevertheless have a basic level of fitness.
Day 1 Arrival in Greifswald
This Brick Gothic university town is the birthplace of the painter Caspar David Friedrich. It has picturesque gabled houses and the largest museum harbour in Germany.
Day 2 Greifswald - Wolgast, approx. 50 km / 31 mi
You’ll cycle past the ruins of the Eldena Monastery and through lake, moor and meadow landscapes that are typical for this region. The romantic half-timbered houses and brick buildings of Wolgast are worth seeing.
Day 3 Wolgast - Mellenthin region, 40-50 km / 29-31 mi
Over the Peenestrom you’ll cycle strait to Usedom, Germany’s sunniest region. Small lakes, boulders and sandy beaches characterise this landscape. You’ll be able to see a rare runestone in the New Pudagla rock garden.
Day 4 Mellenthin region - Ueckermünde, 50-60 km / 31-37mi, boat trip
Visit the moated castle before cycling to the fishing village of Kamminke in the Achterland region, with its distinctive thatched-roof houses. You’ll then take the ferry across the Szczecin Lagoon to the seaside resort of Ueckermünde with its beautiful historic centre and the Pomeranian Castle.
Day 5 Ueckermünde - Stolpe region, 35/50 km / 22/31 mi
Take a look at the Ueckermünde sanatorium and learn more about its dark and troubled history, before cycling along the reed-covered Szczecin Lagoon. The Hanseatic city of Anklam has a Dutch windmill, stone gate and is home to the Otto Lilienthal Museum.
Day 6 Stople region - Wolgast, 40/55 km / 25/34 mi
Today you’ll cycle through the lagoon landscape of the Lassaner Winkel and visit the harbour town of the same name, Lassan, known for its brightly coloured front doors. You’ll while away the evening hours in the old town of Wolgast.
Day 7 Wolgast - Peenemünde - Greifswald, 50 km / 31 mi
The World War II rocket research facility has been transformed into an exciting history and science museum. However, the Vikings also left their mark here, with gold rings from the time of the Kings Gorm the Old and Harald Bluetooth.
