On this cycle tour in North Frisia you’ll get to know the North Sea, the islands of Amrum and Föhr, as well as Hooge, which is one of the Halligen islands. In this landscape you’ll enjoy endless views of the marshlands and the sea, spanned by vast blue skies with ever changing cloud formations. Lively towns that are popular with holidaymakers alternate with tranquil cycling stages, dominated by sheep and seagulls. You’ll take a few boat trips, which are already included in the tour price. This cycle tour in North Frisia is also suitable for less experienced cyclists.
Day 1 Arrival in Husum
The city is the centre of North Friesland and is home interesting museums. There is a lively atmosphere at the inland harbour.
Day 2 Husum - Insel Föhr, approx. 44-63 km / 27-39 mi
The route runs close to the sea and through the marshes to Dagebüll, a former terp and ferry port to the islands. Crossing to Amrum or Föhr (depending on the hotels booked). Note: Depending on the hotel, the islands of Föhr and Amrum can also appear in the opposite order in the stage description.
Day 3 Round trip on Föhr Island, 42 km / 26 mi
Today you’ll explore this green island and its Wadden Sea, long sandy beaches, interesting churches and talking tombstones. If you do not understand the Low German language, you can also get along with Frisian and Danish.
Day 4 Amrum Island, 5-30 km / 3-19 mi
The ferry takes you to Amrum. A vast sandy beach, high dunes and seaside lidos contribute to its maritime flair, while the Amrum lighthouse offers excellent views.
Day 5 Escursion to Island of Hallig Hooge
You’ll cycle to the ferry and then cross over to Hallig island of Hooge. The island is flooded several times a year by storm surges, only the houses on the Warft knolls poke out of the sea then. The only means of transport are horse-drawn carriages and your own two feet.
Day 6 Amrum Island - Husum, approx. 42-65 km / 26-40 mi
The landscape you’ll visit today is called Schwansen and was once home to large farms with serf farmers. In Kappeln, the herring fence in the river Schlei is remarkable and the suburb of Olpenitz used to be an important naval base.
